Sport at Kew House School plays a pivotal role in the physical and emotional development of its pupils. Whether it is through the core physical education curriculum, extra-curricular activities or the games fixture programme, all pupils have access to a wide range of sporting disciplines to engage in and enjoy. We value the importance of inclusivity, opportunity and choice to ensure participation is maximised across all ability levels.
We also place emphasis on performance by continually evolving our fixture programme, specialist training sessions and performance analysis to ensure that individual and team potential is recognised and realised. Having fostered strong links with local sports clubs, we not only have access to a host of top class sporting facilities in close proximity to the school, but have identified pathways for our pupils to continue their pursuit for sport and physical activity outside of school.
The Department of Education has worked closely with teachers and the Youth Sport Trust to develop a new GCSE Physical Education specification that will inspire teaching and learning. New and contemporary topics will help students of all abilities to develop a well-rounded skillset and prepare them for progression to further studies.
GCSE Physical Education continues to provide students with the knowledge and understanding of how to live a healthy and active lifestyle, enabling them to make informed choices about their own physical development. Students can choose from a variety of sports and physical activities in which to participate. They will also learn how to analyse and evaluate performance and suggest effective plans for improvement.
This course has 40 % non-exam assessment (practical performance in physical activity and sport). Students will be assessed during KS3 PE to ensure they have met the non-exam assessment requirements for GCSE Physical Education. This specification is particularly suitable for Kew House School students who wish to continue their studies in further education at (A Level PE) and for those who are interested in related career opportunities.
