CURRICULUM SUBJECT
“With languages you are at home, everywhere”
-Edward Wall (Artist)
Spanish is spoken by over 600 million people and is the third most spoken language in the world. Learning Spanish opens you up to numerous possibilities in terms of further study, employment and capacity to travel the world. At Kew House we are committed to enhancing the language skills of all of our students. On joining in Year 7, pupils are introduced to Spanish as part of the languages carousel. They initially have three half terms of Spanish and will cover topics of: my world, school and free time. We use Viva resources and online platforms such as Active Learn and Linguascope. We further enhance our students’ introduction to the subject with celebrations across the year such as International Languages Day, Day of the Dead and many more.
GCSE
Throughout the GCSE course, students will improve all four language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. The specification covers three distinct themes. These themes apply to all four question papers. Pupils are expected to understand and provide information and opinions on these themes, relating to their own experiences and those of other people, including countries in which Spanish is spoken.
The three themes are: people and lifestyle, popular culture and communication, and the world around us.
Studying any language at GCSE and A Level is valuable in many different ways:
