Kew House Jazz Café

The Sixth Form ILC was transformed into the Kew House Jazz Café on the final evening of the spring term for a Pop, Rock, Soul, and Jazz gig.  The library shelves gave way to a lighting rig, the site team built us a raised stage, and the student-led bands performed material by The Kinks, Artic Monkey, Nina Simone, The Fugees and, of course Stevie Wonder – no KHS soul-band gig is complete without a Stevie cover or two!

It is impossible to pick out highlight pieces, but it’s worth mentioning the multi-talented instrumentalists such as William P (Y10), Nolan M (Y10), Philip C (Y11), and Edward M (Y8) who, between them can switch between solo roles on any of piano, double bass, bass guitar, trumpet, and sax.

Mr King (Head of Science) commented on our Y11 and Y12 singers’ ability to hold a perfect 3-part harmony in front of a 10-piece soul band “how do they do that?” … That’s magic, Mr King!
